Today the students watched a video over alternative energies and the future of them.   Tomorrow we will have a quiz over alternative energies.

Here is sneak peek at the quiz.

Question 1 Julie's grandmother hired a company to place large black grids on the roof of her house.  What type of alternative energy is she using? (Solar)

Question 2 electricity can be produced by the movement of water, what is this called? (Hydroelectric )

Question 3 the picture below is an example of?  (Wind energy)

Question 4 Robert is buying a farm in Texas that grows corn for renewable energy.  Which form of renewable energy is Robert most likely going to produce? (Biofuel)

Question 5 earth has many natural resources that can be used to produce energy.  Which of the following is a renewable natural resource? (Water)

Question 6 a city recorded the amount of energy produced on several days by the new wind turbine.
Day number.            Amount of energy
Day 1                         7 kilowatts
Day 2.                        9 kilowatts
Day 3.                        6 kilowatts
Day 4.                        7 kilowatts

Which statement below is NOT a correct inference?
( it was least windy on day 2)

Question 7 Texas will need more energy resources in the future.  Two sources of energy that are renewable are-
( solar and hydroelectric)

Question 8 a school district was looking for an energy source that reduces the amount of pollution produced and is renewable.  Which energy choice would they most likely not select? ( natural gas )

Question 9 there is a diagram picture showing a dam on a river and the question asks what form of energy is diagrammed in the picture (hydroelectric)

Question 10
Date.          Sunrise (am).         Sunset (pm)
January 15.  7:42.                     5:29
March 15.      6:38.                  6:31

October 15.     6:22.                6:08

Anthony's home has 7 solar panels.  On which two days was the amount of electricity generated by the panels most similar?  (March 15 and October 15)

Question 11
Location.        Annual days of sunshine.         Average wind speed (mph)
Location A.     240.                                         18
Location B.       315.                                        16

Thursday January 9, 2104

Today we graded the assessment from yesterday and started on an alternative energy mobile that will be completed tomorrow.
I asked the students to bring in a clothes hanger for the mobiles tomorrow.  We will use them and then the students can take them with them next week.

Today I wasn't here, but the students worked out of the textbook on a chapter assessment that will be graded tomorrow.

Tuesday January 7, 2014

Welcome back to the new semester.

Today the students worked in the computer lab on an alternative energy exploration that detailed the types of alternative energies we will be covering over the next unit.

I decided to take that for a daily participation grade and it should be in the gradebook now.

Today we took a short quiz over the formation of coal and oil.  Those grades will be added tio the grade that they recieved on their coal and oil project presentations.

Thursday December 12, 2013

Today the students went into the computer lab and continued their work on the oil/coal formation project.  The project was due at the end of the class period and tomorrow we will have a quiz that will test them over the material that they should have included in their presentations.
