Today we played a review game called trashketball.  The students really enjoyed it and I asked questions directly from the exam during the game.  I also handed out a review the students can use to study for their exam tomorrow.  If you would like help filling it in you can go to the link from the blog on Tuesday and it will be very helpful.

Today the students and I finished up the notes over alternative enrgy resources.  I then went over a review for their exam on Thursday.

Today the students and I started the alternative energy resources notes.  We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each.  We also discussed the exam that we will have on Thursday.

Today the students took the previously mentioned crossword vocabulary puzzle.  After the quiz we finished up the video over alternative fuels from Friday.

Today the students and I viewed a vidoe that discussed alternative fuels and the advantages and disadvantages of them.  We took notes together over the information.  Monday there will be a vocabulary quiz where the students will have to complete the following crossword puzzle.

Today the students completed p. F118 Questions 1-8 out of their textbooks.  They also completed some vocabulary over alternative energy.  Those words will be part of a vocabulary quiz next monday.  The words are: solar energy, fusion energy, biomass, nuclear energy, geothermal energy, chemical bonds, hydroelectric energy, and tidal energy.

The students and I were able to finish up the coal and oil formation diagrams and descriptions.  Tomorrow we will be covering compaction vs. cementation and alternative fuels to end the week on Friday.

Today the students and continued to go over the oil and coal formation diagrams and information.  We finished up coal and started on oil formation. I pointed out several similarities between the two along with several differences. We will be finishing it tomorrow.

Today the students and I will be going over Coal and oil Formation which may take 1 or more days to do.  The students took notes and drew diagrams showcasing how coal and oil are formed.

Important news for the week

We  are beginning a new 6 weeks and the students are rrequired to bring in a new spiral for science.  We will be using this new spiral for the next 12 weeks in class.

Here is a schedule of what we will be doing this week:

We didn't have a normal class today.  The studetns were in assigned rooms taking the math benchmarks.  It was also an early out at the school.

Today the students took their Science benchmarks.  I only saw my 6th, 7th, and 8th period classes today.  Those classes took the sedimentary rock notes that the earlier classes had already taken.

The above link is an animation showing how coal and oil are formed.  It is vital that the students understand this.  I will be showing my classes this animation a number of times to hopefully drive home the point of how each is formed.

Today the students took the fossil fuel vocabulary quiz.  I will have those graded and input into the grade book as soon as possible.  The classes also finished up the power point over sedimentary rock.

Happy Election Day!!!

Today I was only here for half of the day.  I had the students the second half of the day study for their vocabulary quiz tomorrow during class as well as finish up the section review on pg. C47 of their textbooks.

The studetns were given 7 vocabulary terms they needed to write down in their spiral and define.  The words are: Sediment, fossil fuels, Coal, oil (petroleum), natural gas, cementation, and compaction.
The students will be having a vocabulary quiz over these 7 terms Wednesday.

Today the kids got to work with rocks seeing how sediments are formed.  We discussed it as a class and they wrote descriptions and drew pictures of what they looked like before and after in their science notebooks.
